While ABC’s only police procedural drama Castle is dying and may not come back next year after all, ABC bets on American Crime‘s John Ridley to find its next hit: Presence is expected to be picked-up to pilot soon, off-cycle, competing for a spot on the schedule in 2016/2017.

Like American Crime -coming back in 2016 for a second season- John Ridley (12 Years A Slave) will write, direct and executive produce the pilot with Michael McDonald. Presence is described as a stylish update of the classic detective genre. It follows Presence Foster, a former Army Counter Insurgency Operative who finds herself navigating a widely divergent and highly colorful cross section of Los Angeles as she unintentionally begins a career as an unlicensed (unlic) Private Investigator. It is produced by ABC Studios, where Ridley has an overall deal.
