This is not a statement from my part (or is it?) and certainly not from Jill Soloway but “I Love Dick” could probably become your next obsession. The “Transparent” creator is directing and producing this new pilot for Amazon.
Based on the popular book of the same name from Chris Kraus, that made a splash when it was published in 1997 before the Sex & The City series era and that is still considered as a reference for writers, art historians and theoreticians, I Love Dick is a psycho-sexual dramedy about a married, failed independent filmmaker in her forties, who falls in love with a well-known theorist and endeavors to seduce him with the help of her husband. But when the man refuses to answer her letters, the husband and the wife continue the correspondence for each other instead, imagining the fling the wife wishes to have with Dick. What follows is a breathless pursuit that takes a woman across America and away from her husband and far beyond her original infatuation into a discovery of the transformative power of first person narrative. Playwright Sarah Gubbins penned the pilot script, her first work for television. Shooting starts next month between Texas and California.
