SCOOP: The CW eyes Charmed prequel with Jane The Virgin team

More than three years after CBS passed on the Charmed reboot they were working on -which is still talked about a lot by fans all over the world- The CW has landed a prequel to the cult WB series produced by the team of critically acclaimed dramedy Jane The Virgin.

Jane The Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman, as well as producer Brad Silverman, are behind the project which will follow three witches who fight evil in a small New England town during the seventies/eighties (1976), possibly the Halliwells’ ancestors from the Warren Line, the most powerful line of witches in history introduced in the original show. The pilot script is written by Amy Rardin & Jessica O’Toole who already know a thing or two about the 80s and prequel series since they wrote for The Carrie Diaries, prequel of Sex & The City. They also worked on Jane The Virgin, Selfie & Greek.

Brad Silberling, who directed the pilot of Jane The Virgin and also A Series of Unfortunate Events movie (not the upcoming Netflix show) is attached to direct this one as well. CBS Television is the studio, with Propagate Content and Reveal Entertainment.

So don’t expect Alyssa Milano, Shannen Doherty, Holly Mary Combs or Rose McGowan to comeback, at least initially.

It’s not the only series reboot The CW is developing for next season. A Dynasty remake is also in the works.

Why a Remake only after 20 years? They can do it in 60 years maybe. Im in only when it might be a Sequel at least with any of the former main cast members. Even it would be a Prequel I’m expecting Guest-Appearance of those original cast. As we know.. they’ve travelled already back to granny’s Flower Power time.
Otherwise. No Thanks. I don’t Need it.

The same about that DYNASTY Remake. Common CBS… no one replace Joan Collins as Alexis or Linda Evans as Krystle (in the new Version called Cristal ???).
I met Joan and Stephanie Beach and others they told me… they would do it.. but it Looks the Studios are not interested in those actors anymore.
It would be really interesting to see’em again. Steven Carrington with his son Danny, Gordon Thomson as Adam again, Stephanie Beach as Sable Colby and even Joan as Alexis.

Why don’t u get the original cast or at least carry on from the last episode , you should listen to the fans that have watched it all the way through . We the fans want the original cast or there children to do it why not make it happen

NO! Let’s have all instead…The original cast, the past unknowns, their kids and characters that are yet to be dreamt up! Try doing something different with the script and appeal to the past fans and future fans. It just needs the great creatives to do their stuff and those that are passionate about it to be involved. Bring back the Magic back for all! This idea just sounds like a through off into another series or story!

  4. I’m a bit iffy about the prequel idea. The Carrie Diaries never made much of an impact, and the historical drama Reign has had mixed results at best. And the net seems to be really going for historical pieces this year, with Mata Hari, The Lost Boys and Marlowe. I can’t help but wonder if a straight reboot or even a sequel might be a better idea.

I was hoping to see a Next Generation show with The Halliwell/Matthews cousins: Wyatt (Wes Ramsey), Chris (Drew Fuller), Melinda, Paige’s twins & Phoebe’s girls as the next generation fighting evil which would include recurring guest appearances by Piper, Phoebe, Paige and occasionally Aunt Prue in her non corporeal form.
